2022-23 President & Vice President Profiles

Meet your 2022-23 Senior Class President & Vice President!

President – Liam McLean

Major(s)/Certificate(s): Political Science with Entrepreneurship and Leadership Certificates

Hometown: Fox Point, WI

What qualities and experiences make you the ideal candidate for this position(s)?

I am a highly social and receptive person that seeks others’ perspectives in order to inform my opinions and priorities. My time at UW exemplifies these attributes in action from my time being involved with ASM Shared Governance committees to my paramount experience of serving as the Interfraternity Council (IFC) President. In the latter of these experiences, I pivoted a previously ineffective platform to constructively address the cultural and systemic issues in fraternity life at UW. There’s room to make the Senior Class Office a purpose driven platform, and Margo and I are driven to do so.

If elected, what are your plans for the Senior Class Office?

-Establish a series of in-person alumni-student networking events for each college and niche major. This provides a major opportunity for all UW seniors to market themselves to alumni and land connections and jobs – serving as a launchpad for many

-Foster more cultural understanding and appreciation by promoting and partnering with identity based student organizations. Co-sponsored events will draw crowds from our class to amplify varying perspectives.

-Promote SA survivor awareness and resources. Partner with UHS and related student organizations in creating spaces and dialogues

Is there anything else you would like to share about yourself?

You might not know me, but trust me, I am your guy. I have been in the campus leadership game long enough to know the ivory tower education bureaucracy tricks meant to suppress student voices and ingenuity. I have served on the Cabinet of Student Leaders, I know the players, I know the rules. But those lessons pale in comparison to the fact that executing these ideas will take a village. I can’t do any of this alone, but at the very least, I can bring us together. I have a passion for improving ineffective platforms, and I am adamant that we can make the senior class experience mean something.
