So live a life you will remember.

Canestraro

Name: Maxwell Canestraro

Candidate for: Both Senior Class President and Senior Class Vice President

Major(s)/Certificate(s): Economics and History

Hometown: Stillwater, MN

What qualities and experiences make you the ideal candidate for this position(s)?

Throughout the balance of my life, I have often taken on leadership opportunities when they have presented themselves to me. Whether it was being the captain of my high school’s Mock Trial team, taking on leadership roles at every job I have ever held, or helping tutor those in need of help in my classes, I know not just how to lead, but to lead in a way that is responsive to the needs and desires of those under my purview; in this way, I most certainly have the ability to make effective decisions amicable to all, a leadership style which is most suited to being Senior Class President.

If elected, what are your plans for the Senior Class Office?

My goal for this office is to facilitate adequate events such that the Senior Class is prepared for whatever it is their plans are beyond this university. I also plan to ensure an adequate supply of fun, primarily social events that will allow the Senior Class to connect with each other in ways they may not have had the opportunity to during their time on campus thus far, especially as a result of our class being acutely affected by COVID. As such, I hope to ensure that, regardless of how your time at this school has been, your senior year is one upon which you will look back fondly.

Is there anything else you would like to share about yourself?

I recognize that this office is of great importance and consequence to your future, and that it is not easy to place such an important position in the hands of one of your classmates about whom little is known other than these brief paragraphs I have typed. Know, however, that if elected, I will commit myself entirely to this position. If time needs to be reallocated from any other obligation whatsoever in order to fulfill the duties of my office to the best of my ability, it will be done. As such, this office will become my number one priority; this position deserves nothing less.

McLean / Wyatt

Name: Liam McLean

Candidate for: Senior Class President

Major(s)/Certificate(s): Political Science with Entrepreneurship and Leadership Certificates

Hometown: Fox Point, WI

What qualities and experiences make you the ideal candidate for this position(s)?

I am a highly social and receptive person that seeks others’ perspectives in order to inform my opinions and priorities. My time at UW exemplifies these attributes in action from my time being involved with ASM Shared Governance committees to my paramount experience of serving as the Interfraternity Council (IFC) President. In the latter of these experiences, I pivoted a previously ineffective platform to constructively address the cultural and systemic issues in fraternity life at UW. There’s room to make the Senior Class Office a purpose driven platform, and Margo and I are driven to do so.

If elected, what are your plans for the Senior Class Office?

-Establish a series of in-person alumni-student networking events for each college and niche major. This provides a major opportunity for all UW seniors to market themselves to alumni and land connections and jobs – serving as a launchpad for many

-Foster more cultural understanding and appreciation by promoting and partnering with identity based student organizations. Co-sponsored events will draw crowds from our class to amplify varying perspectives.

-Promote SA survivor awareness and resources. Partner with UHS and related student organizations in creating spaces and dialogues

Is there anything else you would like to share about yourself?

You might not know me, but trust me, I am your guy. I have been in the campus leadership game long enough to know the ivory tower education bureaucracy tricks meant to suppress student voices and ingenuity. I have served on the Cabinet of Student Leaders, I know the players, I know the rules. But those lessons pale in comparison to the fact that executing these ideas will take a village. I can’t do any of this alone, but at the very least, I can bring us together. I have a passion for improving ineffective platforms, and I am adamant that we can make the senior class experience mean something.

Name: Margo Wyatt

Candidate for: Senior Class Vice President

Major(s)/Certificate(s): Political Science and International Studies

Hometown: Cedarburg, WI

What qualities and experiences make you the ideal candidate for this position(s)?

I am so passionate about both UW Madison and the community as a whole. I have been apart of many organizations and held many leadership positions during my academic career. These include being the Executive chair of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion for Badger Tank and being on the DEI committee of Delta Gamma. I also work at the Wisconsin State Capitol and love to volunteer for political and philanthropic institutions in Madison and my hometown of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I know my outstanding experiences and qualities are what it takes to represent our senior class.

Is there anything else you would like to share about yourself?

I have the experience, leadership abilities, connections, personality, and passion about our school needed to be the ideal Senior Class Vice President. Other people’s opinions are very important to me when doing a job and I will need yours for all of us to succeed. I love meeting new people and making new connections and I can’t wait to do so through Senior Class Office!

Singh / Lewis-Holt

Name: KJ Singh

Candidate for: Senior Class President

Major(s)/Certificate(s): Finance

Hometown: Minneapolis, MN

What qualities and experiences make you the ideal candidate for this position(s)?

I feel qualified because his LinkedIn headshot looks like the Geico lizard wearing glasses. Matt called me out on this and I agree wholeheartedly. I also feel qualified because I love Capital Club sandwiches at Grainger café and would love to see them in all campus buildings.

But in all seriousness, we are both super involved on campus in AKPsi and finance organizations, and would love to leave some footprint on this campus before we graduate. Looking forward to campaigning.

If elected, what are your plans for the Senior Class Office?

This election is about to be…wait for it…legenDARY.

When I’m sad, I stop being sad and start being awesome instead.

Stop being a bum and go to the gym. All it takes is that first step.

Is there anything else you would like to share about yourself?

N/A

Name: PapaCanooche Lewis-Holt

Candidate for: Senior Class Vice President

Major(s)/Certificate(s): Communication Arts and Legal Studies

Hometown: Chicago, Illinois. But my home is the planet Earth; third closest to the sun

What qualities and experiences make you the ideal candidate for this position(s)?

I think that I am a good candidate because I am kind, sociable, I like to do things that are not in my immediate comfort zone, and I am all about self improvement.

I was not always as cool with folks as I used to be. In the beginning, I was quite egotistical and entitled; that was 3 years ago. Now, I see myself being a mentor and even a big brother to a lot of people. I don’t just do it for money; I care more about sedentary value.

Lastly, I was homeschooled until Junior year of high school, so I don’t really say things the same as other people. I care more about my friends’ wellbeing than _”

If elected, what are your plans for the Senior Class Office?

Oh god. That’s a good question.

I think the first place that I would start is to help more of the international students to make friends with the students that from the US. This is mainly because; some of them become so closed off within their own world that they begin to no longer like the University because of the lack of social interaction.

Another thing I would like to do is to help my female classmates with making friends WITHOUT joining a sorority. That may sound weird at first glance, but the truth is that they are not always the best environment. Especially when it can be natural.

Is there anything else you would like to share about yourself?

I am a musical artist and I like to collaborate with people.
Not for money or attention, but because I really enjoy the idea of time capsule.
Like, the feelings and thoughts I have now aren’t going to be what I feel in seven months. So I like to remember and look and see how I’vs changed, or what I should change.
